• We must still address capacity issues, core program needs, and high priority safety and security concerns.
• We must still address our aging, energy-inefficient elementary schools, three of which have many basic building components that have reached or exceeded their lifespan.
• We must still provide improved access to our school sites, including sufficient parking and safe traffic circulation for busses, parents, staff, and community members.
In addition to attending the forums, residents can offer their perspective by email at communityinput@muskegonorway.org.

Background
The school board, which began closely evaluating our elementary facilities in 2007, has established a key objective to guide our work: to conduct a transparent and comprehensive process that addresses validated needs, seeks community engagement, and responds appropriately to citizen input. With this in mind, we reached out to voters following the November referendum with a brief survey and more than 1,600 residents providing valuable feedback. Using this input, the school board worked throughout the winter to respond to the top issues identified, primarily the overall project cost and tax impact. So we again turn to citizens to help us evaluate a preliminary plan for a revised project to consolidate elementary schools and provide direction for the future.
At the upcoming community forums, the district will review the preliminary revised project in detail, answer questions, and facilitate small group discussion and input on a variety of key topics.
