Observatory Hosts Public Night to View This Weekend's Eta Aquarids Meteor Shower

The Milwaukee Astronomical Society is hosting a Public Night at its Observatory, 18850 Observatory Road, on Friday, May 6 at 7:30 p.m.

The topic for the evening is the Eta Aquarid Meteor Shower. The Eta Aquarids are formed from the dust from Halley's comment, which passed the Earth 25 years ago in 1986.

This weekend is the best time to view the meteor shower, and the "waxing," moon-less sky should offer a great view of 15-30 meteors per hour. The best time to see them locally is 11 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Viewers should look to the east sky to see the shooting stars.
