WISCONSIN -- Wisconsin teachers woke up to shocking news on Tuesday morning. And no, it wasn't JUST because it was the first day of school for them.

They learned that Herb Kohl, former owner of the Milwaukee Bucks and former longtime U.S. Senator completed the funding for their project on DonorsChoose.org.

They weren't alone. Nearly 700 projects in 140 school districts across Wisconsin were fully-funded by Herb Kohl Philanthropies on Tuesday.

In total, 600 Wisconsin teachers will receive materials for approximately 43,000 students. The price tag for that amount of giving was about $500,000, according to a report by the Milwaukee Business Journal.

“As the new school year kicks off, we are thrilled to support all of the classroom projects currently posted by teachers right here in Wisconsin," Kohl said in a statement. "We owe a lot to our teachers and hold enormous hope for our students. They are both a constant source of inspiration."
