John D. Cherney, 54, Was Loving Father, Stunt Diver

John loved the time he spent with his children, he also liked building things, fixing things, remodeling and spending time in nature.

MUSKEGO, WI -- John D. Cherney, age 54, passed away on Monday, January 7th 2019 after battling a sudden illness in Newbury Ohio where he resided. He was born in Beloit, WI to the late Gerald and Marcia (nee Cole) Cherney.

John graduated from Muskego H.S. in 1982 where he loved to dive and play the drums. John went to WCTC during high school and learned auto body and auto reupholstering and used those skills to restore antique vehicles. He was also a skilled mechanic.

John went to UW Milwaukee where he was a member of the Dive Team and earned Academic All American Honors. He held a high dive record at UWM that qualified him for Nationals. He graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering and held various positions in the field such as Application Engineer, Product Manager, IT Manager, Quality Manager, and he was a long time member of ASHRAE.

During college John was a diving coach at Greenfield HS. He also worked at Cypress Gardens, FL where he did dives and stunts from the high dive including diving while on fire. John loved the time he spent with his children, he also liked building things, fixing things, remodeling and spending time in nature.

John is survived by his former spouse Gail Cherney and their 6 children who were the love of his
life, Erica, Jacob, Emily, Aaron, Matthew and Sarah, all of Mansfield Ohio. He also leaves
behind his siblings Mike (Shanda) Cherney of Muskego, WI; Deb (Mike) Kocher of Muskego,
WI; and Bobb (Jane) Cherney of Waukesha, WI; along with many cherished relatives and friends
who were an important part of his life.

A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday, March 3 rd 2019 in the Commons of Lakepoint
Church S63 W13694 Janesville Rd, Muskego, WI 53150 from 1 – 4 pm with an informal service
being held at 3 pm to honor and share memories of John.
