Muskego Construction: What are They Doing on College Avenue?

Crews are working at the Park Arthur College Avenue entrance; what the result is going to be.

Road construction has been in the plans for the downtown area in Muskego and should take no one by surprise, but motorists looking to use College Avenue to go between Moorland Road and Racine Avenue may experience delays as road crews are at work near Park Arthur.

Considered the access to the park that will see greater traffic, especially during tournaments, the city collaborated with the county to construct additional lanes to leave the park, and saw the need to add bypass lanes at that site.

Last year, the total estimates included completion of the bypass lane on College Avenue, which was required by the county. In addition, it was expected that $185,000 of the entire project cost would be covered by park dedication funds. Payne and Dolan is in charge of the project, and was one of four companies that submitted a bid.

The bypass lane was originally estimated to cost $235,000 alone, but a memo from Public Works Director Dave Simpson stated the overall cost plummeted to an estimated $85,000 after it was determined the county would require a much less in-depth construction of College Avenue.

The project is expected to be completed by early June.
