Muskego Honors Those in Uniform, and Those in the Neighborhood
Annual awards ceremony recalls incidents where officers and citizens reacted above and beyond the call of duty, recognizing one family for doing so for decades.
Unfortunate events often show the best in people, whether or not they're wearing a uniform. The Muskego Police Department made sure those heroes got their moment of recognition Thursday night during their annual awards ceremony.
Many officers were recognized for their conduct during a standoff after a police responded to a domestic abuse call at the end of October. The man who had barricaded himself in the attic was eventually taken into custody unharmed. New Berlin Police officers, including K9 Bac were also recognized for their assistance during that incident.
Citizen Awards were given to Brian O'Keefe, for tipping off police to a suspicious man at Walmart, leading to an arrest. Former Mayor David DeAngelis and his daughter Julia for rescuing a group of boaters who had capsized on Big Muskego Lake in the spring of 2012.

The Salentine family were also honored for service to the department over the years since the department was formed in 1967. A tree has been planted in the name of the Salentines in Veteran's Memorial Park, with a plaque accompanying it.
Officers Steven Johannik and Jason Ondricka were sworn in as Sargeants in the department, and the department also recognized officers from outside of the area for assistance in various incidents.

Walworth County deputies Kenneth Bauer and John Czerwinski reported a wrong way driver on Highway 36 and were able to thwart disaster when Muskego Police were able to reach the scene. In addition, many in the New Berlin Police Department were on hand to be recognized for their assistance during the October standoff.
