Muskego Man Serves Fresh Kettle Corn, Come Rain or Shine

So who is that guy braving the elements to bag and serve Kettle Corn in Muskego?

The red canopy has become a part of the downtown landscape, and is as likely to be seen on a sunny day in May as it is during a gray November morning.

Serving kettle corn for the better part of the last four years, and the past two in front of Muskego Beer and Liquor every weekend, Richard Knudsen said he took up the business after being laid off from a longtime position at Waukesha Engine.

"I lost my job, and wasn't getting anywhere," Knudsen told Muskego Patch. "This was something I had always thought of doing, so I got started, and it's just taken off, especially after we started Jammin' on Janesville."

If the name seems familiar, Knudsen is a former alderman for the city, serving in the 1990s. He said that he sells nearly every weekend, but admits that sometimes the coldest or snowiest weather can sideline the business from operating. Having just a canopy overhead, it's easy to cut him a little slack.

The buttery snack is bagged and served fresh, and what isn't sold on the spot is put on the shelves inside the liquor store. Other product is rebagged into smaller portions and goes to the Muskego Food Pantry.
