Muskego OKs Study of Woods and Moorland Road Intersection - Could a Roundabout be in Its Future?
Traffic backups during afternoon drive times are prompting a 20-year plan for a Muskego intersection, which will consider if turn lanes, lights or a roundabout are the answer.

The backups at a four way stop at the intersection of Woods and Moorland Road last year are prompting a study of the site to see if more should be done at some point in the future to correct the problem. As many as 15-20 cars have been backed up at the intersection during late afternoons during the week.
David Simpson, Director of Public Works recommended to the Finance Committee Tuesday night that Graef consulting should handle the study for a cost of $5,900, the lowest cost among five firms that placed bids on the project.
The study would include data such as a 12-hour intersection count, crash data over a 5-year period, and 20-year traffic projection for the area.

"We've improved Moorland Road, and then we improved Durham Drive, but we forgot to do something about the intersection where they come together at Woods," said Alderman Neil Borgman. He also cited the Belle Chasse subdivision which is coming online, with the third phase of development there ready to begin, as a future concern for traffic.
Simpson explained that signals, additional turn lanes or a roundabout were all potential suggestions that may come out of the report, which should be completed before the city begins its 2014 budget talks in August. However, he felt the city would not have to react immediately to any suggestions.

"What comes out of this report will not commit the city to doing something as soon as possible, but it can assist with budgeting for the next two to five years," he said.
