Muskego Residents Remain a Target of Bold Scammers

Giving personal information about family members, even posing as them, scammers continue to target Muskego residents and their money

Muskego Police continue to hear from elderly residents about scammers who are using personal information about family members in order to collect "bail money" from them.

Muskego Patch had reported on a series of incidents about two weeks ago, but it appears that the scammers are continuing to target the Muskego area.

On April 27, a Muskego resident reported being the victim of a scam to police, after receiving a phone call from his “grandson” who claimed to be under arrest after getting in an accident and needed money wired to Lebanon.

Characteristic of how the scam operates, the resident reported that his “grandson” knew enough personal information to convince him that the call was legitimate. Police believe that the scammer was able to obtain the information through social media, so it may be time to check your privacy settings on any of your social accounts. At any rate, police urge residents to never send money to any "relative" unless you can confirm the need is legitimate.
