Muskego Swimmers Snag Sectionals

A number of the swimmers placed first and moved on to compete in the state meet this weekend.

The Muskego boys swim team continued its reign over Southeastern Wisconsin by winning the WIAA sectional this past weekend at Waukesha South High School.

Muskego finished with 384 points as Waukesha North/Kettle Moraine trailed in second with 313. 

Muskego junior Joe Szczupakiewicz won the 500-yard freestyle. He also placed first in the 200 medley relay along with teammates Thomas Stigler, Patrick Walsh and Jon Roberts.

Walsh, a senior, placed first in the 200 individual medley, while his sophomore teamates, JP Paquette and Stigler, came in second and third. Paquette also came in first in the 100 butterfly.

Additionally, Roberts placed first in 50 free.

The WIAA Division 1 State Meet is Saturday in Madison, and Szczupakiewicz is a swimmer watch.

"The 500 freestyle should be competitive with the return of junior Joe Szczupakiewicz of Muskego, who was runner-up in the event last season," the WIAA wrote in the release. "He is the top qualifier this season with a time of 4:38.54."

Walsh, Paquette, Stigler and Roberts will also be competing at the state competition.
