National Night Out Ahead This Week

The annual crime-prevention event National Night Out will be back Thursday at Veterans Memorial Park.

The event is set for 5 to 9 p.m. Aug. 8 at the park, W182 S8200 Racine Ave. It features emergency vehicles, a police canine unit, the Jaws of Life, a Smoke House, airbag and fire extinguisher demonstrations and more. 

Schedule permitting, the Flight for Life may also make an appearance. 

Entertainment includes live music, a bounce house, face-painting and a glow-stick walk. Organizers are also collecting old cell phones and eye glasses. See the Patch calendar for more details.

• Families will have a rare chance to camp out a the Milwaukee County Zoo this week with the "Snooze at the Zoo" event on Wednesday and Thursday night. The event includes a picnic buffet, a s'mores campfire, a continental breakfast in the morning and free admission to the zoo the following day. The zoo's website as all the details.
