Waukesha County communities safely emptied more than two tons of unwanted medications from their medicine cabinets. Way to go!

WAUKESHA COUNTY -- On October 22, 2016, the Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) coordinated a Prescription Drug Take Back Initiative throughout Wisconsin. The focus was on removing potentially dangerous pharmaceutical substances from our state's medicine cabinets and preventing them from going into our water supply.

The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department teamed up with the Department of Justice as well as the City of Brookfield, City of Muskego, City of Oconomowoc, City of Delafield, City of New Berlin, City of Waukesha Village of Menomonee Falls, Village of Elm Grove, Village of Mukwonago, Village of Eagle, Village of Hartland and Village of Pewaukee at collections sites for the take back event.

In all, residents in these communities got rid of 4,562.2 pounds of unwanted medications, preventing them from polluting area water supplies or being mis-used by well-meaning (or nefarious) people.
