The grants may be used for demolition, environmental remediation or site-specific improvements defined in the community's redevelopment plan

MUSKEGO -- Muskego's Parkland Mall property got a half-million dollar boost from the state as a developer begins work transforming the vacant site into a retail and residential center.

According to the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation, who made their announcement today, the Parkland Mall in Muskego is receiving a $500,000 grant.

The mall in the heart of downtown Muskego, which has been vacant since 1998, will be redeveloped into a $34 million Parkland Towne Center, which will include a new Sendik’s grocery store, 90 units of housing and 53,000 square feet of commercial space.

According to a report from the Milwaukee Business Journal, the grant will help the city and Greenfield developer Ener-Con Cos. Inc. pay for site grading and utility work. Ener-Con will build three apartment buildings on the site with 90 units. The project’s 53,500 square feet of retail space will be anchored by a Sendik’s grocery store.

An affiliate of Ener-Con recently bought the property for $4 million, according to state records.
