Tess Corners' Fundraising Effort Tops Among Volunteer Fire Departments

Tess Corners firefighters raised more than $13,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association this summer.

Fire departments across Wisconsin went to bat for the Muscular Dystrophy Association in the Fill-the-Boot campaign earlier this summer.

Among volunteer fire departments, there were none better than Tess Corners.

The department raised more than $13,000 for MDA, making it the top volunteer fire department in Wisconsin, according to an MDA news release.

Tess Corners firefighters held out boots and solicited donations at Janesville and Moorland roads for four hours June 7 and June 14. They also kept the boot out at its station during Jammin' on Janesville events in July and August.

Donations go to a variety of local MDA clients and services. Some examples: sending children to a summer camp in Kenosha County, funding clinic visits at Froedtert and Children's hospitals, financing wheelchair repairs and providing money for research.

Fill-the-Boot campaigns are held throughout North America to benefit MDA, a voluntary health agency working to defeat neuromuscular diseases through research, services and education.
