Tess Corners Fundraising Tops Among Volunteer Fire Departments

Tess Corners firefighters raised more than $13,000 during a two-day campaign at the corner of Janesville and Moorland roads.

Tess Corners firefighters' efforts during the Fill-the-Boot campaign earlier this month put it in elite company among volunteer fire departments in the state.

The No. 1 volunteer fire department, to be exact.

Tess Corners raised $13,144 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association while soliciting donations at Janesville and Moorland roads for four hours June 7 and June 14.

That makes it the largest donating volunteer fire department in Wisconsin, Lt. Jeff Shelto said.

Hundreds of local fire departments across the country participate in Fill-the-Boot each year. Firefighters have raised $375 million for MDA since it began in the campaign in 1954, according to the MDA

The Tess Corners Fire Department will keep the boot out at its station, S76 W17858 Janesville Road, during the Jammin' on Janesville events July 5 and Aug. 2 for anyone wishing to donate, Shelto said.
