New Berlin Sports Complex Builders Offer Piece Of Former School

Kahle Builders and Ethic Indoor Sports Facility to give out bricks of former Prospect Hill School in New Berlin.

NEW BERLIN, WI—Prospect Hill School, 5330 S. Racine Ave., has been an idle site for 13 years and now the demolition of the old building is almost done. A 153,000-square-foot complex is going in its place. While the City of New Berlin is pushing for the future, some former teachers and students are wanting something to hold on to.

Joe Mallinger and his business partner Aaron Kahle of Kahle Builders, have been bombarded with inquires from people asking to keep a brick of the old school.

Mallinger, Kahle and their families are offering to hand out bricks to anyone who is interested from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

"We thought it would be a nice gesture to allow them to keep a piece of history," Mallinger told Patch.

He added, this is still a construction site, "please do not walk around on the property. We do not want anyone to get hurt."

Ethic will not only be an option for youth, but will also be available for adult training memberships, including the use of the gym or classes. Ethic will also offer music and school tutoring to meet the needs of all families. In addition, sports medicine, athletic apparel, and a café will be available for public use, city documents said.

The gym will be open from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, while the rest of the complex will open at 8 a.m. Onsite will be a cafe and the lot will have about 300 parking spaces. Ethic plans to open in the fall of 2021.
