Diesel Fuel Cleaned Up After New Berlin Dump Truck Fire

Fire crews noticed diesel fuel leaking into the drainage system after extinguishing a dump truck fire in a Kwik Trip parking lot.

NEW BERLIN, WI — The New Berlin Fire Department, the Department of Natural Resources and an environmental cleanup company were called after a dump truck on fire leaked diesel into the drainage system outside of Kwik Trip on Friday.

The fire department extinguished the dump truck fire at the Kwik Trip parking lot after 5 p.m. Fire officials said the driver was inside the gas station when it started. No civilians or firefighters were injured and no structures were threatened.

Fire crews found diesel fuel leaking from the truck's tank and running off into the drainage system. Several agencies including the New Berlin Emergency Management and the DNR were dispatched to clean up the leak. Kwik Trip also contacted a cleanup agency to help.

Only the dump truck was involved in the fire, officials said.
