Man Dies After Being Shot By New Berlin Police: WI DOJ
The man died of his injuries after being shot by a New Berlin police officer in June.
NEW BERLIN, WI — A man died of his injuries Friday after being shot by a New Berlin police officer in June, the Wisconsin Department of Justice said.
Michael P. Wolski, 57, died of his injuries on July 2 after being shot by New Berlin police officer Rick Helm, 44, in a parking lot on S. Moorland Road in June, DOJ officials said.
Wolski had called 911 about a person with a gun at his location, the DOJ said in a previous statement.

Around 10 p.m. June 22, dispatch received a call about a person with a gun in the 4000 block of South Moorland Road.
New Berlin police officers responded and confronted the Wolski, the DOJ said. At some point, Helm fired his gun and struck Wolski, DOJ officials said.

Helm has been placed on administrative leave, the DOJ said. It added that Helm is a 20-year veteran of the New Berlin Police Department.
The investigation is being led by the DOJ's criminal investigative division, whose final report will be turned over to the Waukesha County District Attorney's Office.
A New Berlin police spokesperson previously told Patch there are no photos of the incident and that the department does not have body cameras or dash cameras.
