Armed Port Washington Man Arrested After 6-Hour Standoff
Following six hours of attempted negotiations and no contact with the man, the SWAT team discharged rounds of pepper spray into the home.

PORT WASHINGTON, WI — A 48-year-old man was arrested by Port Washington police after he reportedly fired a handgun outside his house, and initiated a six-hour standoff with authorities.
According to police, on the evening of Jan. 29 at about 6:30 p.m., Port Washington police officers were called to the 900 block of W. Grand Ave. on a report that a male suspect was outside firing a handgun and shouting "suicidal statements."
Officers arrived in the area, and notified nearby residents to seek shelter in-place.

The Ozaukee County SWAT team was requested to respond to the scene to assist, after the male suspect barricaded himself inside the home.

According to Port Washington police, failed attempts were made throughout the evening by SWAT team members to communicate with the suspect who remained sequestered in his home.

Following six hour of attempted negotiations and no contact with the man, the SWAT team discharged rounds of pepper spray into the residence.
A remote operated surveillance robot was then sent into the residence to assist officers with assessing the situation, according to police reports.
The 48-year-old man was found in the home and suffering from the apparent effects of the pepper spray. He was taken into custody at approximately 12:!5 a.m. without further incident and transported to an area hospital for treatment.
