A million-dollar class was blessed with a million-dollar day for its commencement ceremony at Port Washington High School on Sunday.
Comfortable temperatures and hazy sunshine inspired a last-minute move of the festivities outside to Al Urness Field, said Superintendent Michael Weber. There, as a lone deer peeked in briefly from outside the chain-link fence, 210 seniors received their diplomas.
Brianna Krejci was recognized as the valedictorian and Austin Gerhke as the salutatorian. In addition, dozens were honored for scholarships they earned both from the Port Washington High School Scholarship Committee and schools and organizations elsewhere. Mark Bichler, chairman of the scholarship committee, told friends and family in the audience that the Class of 2013 earned more than $1 million in scholarships.
Krejci delivered the commencement address and Hanna Rausch offered the class farewell.
