Prairie Seed Collecting: Ozaukee Washington Land Trust

Interested in protecting and enhancing local prairies? Want to know more about native wildflowers and grasses from OWLT staff?

OWLT is starting its very own seed collecting group at Fellenz Woods. The prairie at Fellenz Woods was planted in 2000 and contains a high diversity of native wildflowers and grasses. If collected at the right time, the seeds from these plants can be dried and stored to be sown later. The collected seeds can be used to enhance planted prairies, establish new prairies or even help to deter the impacts of invasive species.

By joining OWLT’s seed collecting group, you will have the opportunity to make a lasting ecological impact for future generations while getting a chance to enjoy some of the best lands Ozaukee and Washington Counties have to offer. Anyone interested in being involved can sign up for the email list by responding to our stewardship director, Ryan at rwallin@owlt.org. By signing up for the email list you will be informed on dates and times seed collecting will occur. The preliminary first dates for collecting are August 28th and 29th. Dates will be weekdays with possibility of weekends. Individuals and small groups welcome.
