Malfunctioning Port Washington Tornado Siren Causes Alarm

Local and area officials addressed the issue on Sunday.

A sporadically active north side tornado siren has been causing quite a stir in Port Washington.

City officials reassured residents over the weekend that, "there is an obvious malfunction with the siren" but admitted that the cause remained unknown.

"We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to have this issue remedied as soon as possible," they said Sunday in a community alert.

Ozaukee County Emergency Management representatives echoed Port Washington officials' sentiments in a Sunday morning Facebook post.

"Good Morning. Our office is well aware of the continuing malfunction of one of the Outdoor Warning sirens in the city of Port Washington," it said. "As of this morning, the city has (taken) that siren out of service. Ozaukee County does not own, maintain or have any authority over the operation or maintenance of the sirens in the city of Port Washington. These are city owned and we have been in a dialogue with them about the issues."

Those with questions are encouraged to call the Port Washington Police Department at 262-284-2611 or City Hall at 262-284-2600.

"The city has been made aware of all complaints and questions we have received to date," the Facebook alert continued. " ... Thank you for your input and concern over this serious issue."
