Never Give Up

Submitted by: Nicole Hirschfield I could write a book about all of the life lessons my dad, Guy, has taught me through the years. The most important thing I have learned from him is to never give up. He never had to sit me down and explain this to me, he has showed me through his reactions to his own life experiences. He became a father at a young age. He decided to make a better life for his daughter and began working as a printer in Milwaukee and got his own apartment. A few years later he fell in love with my mom, and took my sisters and I under his wing. He would travel for weeks on end to make ends meet for his family. About a year ago my dad lost his job due to the economy and his company going bankrupt. Instead of giving up, he decided to start his own business to continue supporting his family. It is not easy for him to always find work and be out of town all of the time, but he does it for his family. On Memorial Day of this year, my dad received a very devastating phone call. His father had passed away that afternoon. My dad has looked up to his father and they were great friends. Losing his dad has been very hard on him. I believe this trip would give him a day to get his mind off of losing his dad and be able to enjoy himself for a few hours. Although he is my step-dad, he has been the only father figure that I have had most of my life. He is a wonderful man with a great heart. He has been handed many obstacles in his life, but has never given up and continued to make things better for his family. Although I am grown up now, I still choose to live in Waukesha where my dad lives so that I can be close to him. I could not ask for a better dad.
