Port Washington's Modern Equipment Closing; 59 Jobs Cut

59 jobs will be cut after company officials with Port Washington's Modern Equipment Co. announced they're closing the 98-year-old plant.

PORT WASHINGTON, WI — Modern Equipment Company, LLC, announced it will be permanently closing its facility at 369 W. Western Ave. in Port Washington, cutting 59 employees at this site.

The 98-year-old Modern Equipment Co provides a wide variety of molten metal handling solutions from melting furnaces to foundry ladles.

According to company officials, the terminations will take place in stages, beginning on July 10 and continuing until September 29.

According to documention provided to the State Department of Workforce Development, it is anticipated by the company that 25 salaried and employees will have employment opportunities with a seperate - yet related business.

Company officials stated that this related business may be outside regular commuting distance, so Modern Equipment is providing all employees with notice as it is currently unknown how many of those employees will be affected.

The production and maintenance employees are represented by District 10, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers AFL-CIO Local 66.
