'Sleepwalking' Man Shoots up House; Fires at Retired Police Chief's Home

At the scene, police found multiple bullet casings on the property and found that walls and windows had been shot at.

SAUKVILLE -- A 48-year-old Saukville man faces more than 30 years behind bars after he is accused of shooting up his own home and fired also at his neighbor's.

According to authorities, that neighbor happened to be the community's retired police chief - who had sent the man away after an incident earlier that day in which the man was reportedly acting "irrational."

The suspect, Timothy Dempsey has been charged with four counts of 1st-degree recklessly endangering safety, four counts of discharging a firearm within 100 yards of a building, possession of THC and possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a report published Monday by the Journal Sentinel, police responded to the 200 block of W. Dekora St. just after 4 a.m. Monday on a shots fired call.

When police arrived on the scene, they saw Dempsey on the roof of his garage. He was taken into custody and reportedly told officers he had been sleepwalking, according to the Journal Sentinel's report. At the scene, they found multiple bullet casings on the property and found that walls and windows had been shot at. Marijuana was found in a bedroom.

He is currently being held in the Ozaukee County Jail on a $50,000 cash bond. According to court records, Dempsey waived his preliminary hearing in favor of pleading not guilty by reason of insanity or mental defect.

His next appearance in court is Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. in Ozaukee County.
