Three Conservancy Groups Looking to Buy Former VK Lakefront Property

The groups are looking into buying the property to turn it into a nature preserve.

Three conservancy groups are looking into buying south side lakefront property that was once slated for massive, high-end development, reported the Ozaukee Press.

The Ozaukee Washington Land Trust, The Nature Conservancy and an Ozaukee County department want to purchase and preserve the 206-acre parcel.

The land could become a nature preserve that would include a one-mile shoreline with environmentally sensitive areas,  an important part of the migratory bird corridor, reported the Ozaukee Press.

The property is listed at $18 million by Waukesha State Bank who took over the property two years ago through a foreclosure.

The land was once owned by Brookfield-based VK Development and VK Homes who once planned to develop a subdivision with lakefront mansions.

The bank and the groups are negotiating, but the bank is looking at all its options.
