Man's Heroin Hiding Place Familiar for Waukesha County Deputies, Complaint Says

Andrew E. Gribble, 21, of Sussex, faces charges after being pulled over twice this spring by the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department.

When a Waukesha County deputy pulled over Andrew E. Gribble on May 27, the deputy didn’t have to look very hard to find drugs hiding in Gribble’s shoes, according to a criminal complaint.

That’s because the deputy knew the Sussex resident had been arrested on April 7 after Waukesha County deputies found heroin hiding in his shoes, according to the criminal complaint.

Gribble, 21, was charged Thursday in Waukesha County Circuit Court with two counts of possessing heroin, two counts of possessing drug paraphernalia and one count of possessing amphetamine. If convicted, he faces up to two years and eight months in prison and $26,000 in fines.

Gribble was pulled over on Main Street in Sussex on April 7 after a deputy spotted items dangling from his rear-view mirror, obstructing Gribble’s view. Gribble was limping when he got out of the car, but he denied being injured or limping, telling the deputy the ground was unsteady, according to the complaint.

A Waukesha County deputy had a canine called to the scene to investigate while Gribble was outside the car. Gribble was nervous and putting his hands in his pockets, the complaint states, and the deputies searched him.

The deputy noticed a straw sticking out of his shoe.

“OK, you’ve got me, it is paraphernalia,” Gribble told the deputy, according to the complaint.

A metal cylinder was located inside Gribble’s shoe, which was causing his limp. A substance inside the container tested positive for heroin, according to the complaint.

Gribble was behind the wheel on May 27 when deputies noticed his vehicle was stalled near Clover Drive and Highway 164. Gribble told the deputies he was having troubles driving stick shift.

But when the deputies asked him to walk to the side of the road for his safety, Gribble started to appear nervous and was pacing along the road, the complaint states.

The deputy located a cut-up ballpoint pen in the car and heroin and amphetamine in Gribble’s shoes, according to the complaint.

Gribble is scheduled for an Aug. 26 initial appearance in Waukesha County Circuit Court.
