Sussex Leo Club Contributes to Local and National Charities
The Sussex Leo Club is providing over $4000 to various organizations this year.
(Sussex, WI) - The Sussex Leo Club is providing over $4000 to various organizations this year. The majority of these funds were raised at the Sussex Lions Daze festival in July 2017 through bottled water, popcorn and chocolate milk sales. Additional funds were received from the Sussex Lions Club and the Sussex Lioness Club.
Every year club members decide where the money is distributed. For 2018 donations will be made to Wisconsin Lions Camp, Waukesha Women's Center, Waukesha Deputy Sheriffs Association Make-A-Wish Fund, ALS Foundation, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin, Alzheimer's Association, Parkinson's Disease Foundation, the Humane Animal Welfare Society (HAWS), and Honor Flight. Many of these charities were chosen because one or more club members have a connection to the organization, either directly or through a relative.
The Sussex Leo Club is also funding a project to build a large picnic table for teachers at the Penfield Montessori School in Milwaukee. This school helps low-income and special needs students in the heart of the city. Funds were designated to buy the materials, while the build is planned for this spring, and delivery soon after. A Penfield Montessori School representative approached Leo Club adviser Dave Jasinski about this project. He took the idea a club meeting for discussion and the members enthusiastically approved!
