WAUWATOSA, WI — For discerning diners in Wisconsin who want fresh pasta, real Wisconsin cheese, and locally-sourced meats, The Daily Meal has come up with a definitive list of the best Italian restaurants in every state. In Wisconsin, Chef Paul Bartolotta brings seasonal favorites to an altogether new level in Wauwatosa. at the Ristorante Bartolotta.

According to the Daily Meal, Paul Bartolotta’s flagship Italian restaurant has been drawing guests from downtown for more than 20 years. "A must-order is the Uovo in Ravioli (a single large raviolo encasing ricotta, spinach, and a whole runny egg yolk). Other standouts include hand-cut pappardelle with slow-braised duck ragù, a half chicken roasted under a brick, and whatever is on the chef’s three-course seasonal menu," according to reviews.

The Daily Meal's list of the best Italian restaurants features chef-inspired creations that bring many of these traditions to the United States. To assemble the list, The Daily Meal looked at various "best of" lists, reviews from local publications across the country, and also restaurants that have huge local followings. Big chains weren't considered.

From the Bartolotta website: "Nestled in a historic brewery building in downtown Wauwatosa, Ristorante Bartolotta is the flagship of The Bartolotta Restaurants. Opened in 1993, Ristorante Bartolotta serves handmade pasta and rustic Italian cuisine in a cozy, intimate setting."

Executive Chef Juan Urbieta "has created a name for himself in the Italian dining scene. He has hosted and cooked for many notable wine dinners including a recent evening with Coltibuono, Gaia Gaja, as well as a White Truffle Dinner at the James Beard House in New York City," according to the restaurant.
