Bonnie Lee Announces Run for 14th District Assembly Seat
Global and local community development organizer to run in summer primary

WAUWATOSA, WI - Bonnie Lee, a Wauwatosa resident who has engaged extensively in community development projects within the local community and Africa, has announced that she will run in the Republican Primary for State Assembly. The primary for state elected offices will be held Aug. 11th with the general election in November.
Lee, who has led civic, educational, faith-based, and international projects to build community capacity, is committed to representing the diverse district.
On the local community engagement level, Lee serves as Director of Outreach at Northwest Baptist Church. She has forged partnerships between the church and other community organizations to develop the local community. Two of those efforts focus on education, literacy tutoring for students and financial literacy for parents. Lee has also invested considerable time volunteering in Wauwatosa Public Schools, as well as Milwaukee Public and charter schools.

As an extension of Lee’s local work, she has applied free-market principles to her economic development work in Africa. Lee is the co-founder and president of Learn For Life Kenya, a nonprofit organization focused on preparing Kenyan youth for employment through vocational skills training. Her grant-making organization, which has raised over $300,000 to date, partners with local government and community organizations.
Lee graduated from Baylor University with a B.A. in Religion. She and her husband, Matt (an OB/GYN), have lived in Wauwatosa since 1995. Their sons, Alex and James, graduated from the Wauwatosa School District and now both attend university. She holds a second-degree black belt in Tae Kwon Do from J. K. Lee Black Belt Academy in Brookfield.

Lee recently said, “Southeastern Wisconsin has wonderful people and communities. One step to strengthening our communities is lowering property taxes so that we retain our current residents and attract new ones. Thriving local schools draw families. Let’s keep growing our local economy so we can enjoy all that our vibrant community has to offer.”
