LaDonna Telford, aka the Lady in Red, is celebrating six months in business on North Avenue this month, and she wants to thank Tosa making it a success.
"It's paying all it's bills,"she said, she said of her gently used-clothing shop, LaDy in Red - a Unique Boutique, at 7219 North Ave.
Telford said even runners, bikers and dog-walkers are pausing to look and returning to buy.
Giving back is big for Telford, and she said her shoe fund is going strong. Every month so far she's been able to buy a pair of nice shoes for a needy kid, with small donations from customers.
"A lot of people will just stop in to drop off a dollar in the shoe, even when they don't have to shop."
Recently, found another unique little something, a Wauwatosa curiosity.
It's a tabletop, cabinet or wall plaque about how great it is to live here.
"Wauwatosa," it reads:
"I like living in our little town, where the trees meet across each street.
"Good people live in our little town, the kinds of folks you like to meet.
"For life is interwoven with friends we've come to know, and we hear their joys and sorrows as we daily come and go.
"I love living in Wauwatosa. I care no more to roam, for every house here in our little town is more than a house, it's a home."
"I found it in a thrift shop in Greenfield," Telford said. "I had to buy it; it was only 60 cents."
Telford wonders if anyone has seen such a thing before and knows anything of its origin.
The plaque looks to be around 50 years old, made of painted Masonite with two little houses and trees in raised relief.
If you're curious, take close look at the closeup photo in the gallery, because you won't find it in the shop anymore.
Telford already gave it away to a friend who lives in Tosa "and loves it so much."
