Meeting Set Thursday For Wauwatosa Life Sciences District Master Plan

The hub is anchored by the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, the Milwaukee County Research Park, and UWM Innovation Campus.

WAUWATOSA - Residents are invited to attend the third public meeting Thursday to discuss the Wauwatosa Life Sciences District Draft Master Plan Concept.

The city plans to make the Wauwatosa Life Sciences District southeastern Wisconsin's hub for healthcare, biosciences, and biomedical engineering as a means to promote growth and increased tax revenue in the city. The hub is anchored by the Milwaukee Regional Medical Center, the Milwaukee County Research Park, and the UWM Innovation Campus.

According to the city, this unique collaboration between public and private entities will outline three key principles for the area:

  • Natural Areas/Balanced Environment: The plan includes enhanced protections for nearly 595 acres of green space and natural areas that are currently zoned for medical-use development.
  • Economics/Balanced Development: The plan maximizes the potential to generate high-quality, professional jobs and add property value through the mixed-use development.
  • Social Equity/Balanced Equity: The city is proposing to make natural areas open and accessible to everyone, including seniors and those with special needs.

The meeting will be held 5:30 to 8 p.m. April 6 at the Muellner Building in Hart Park, 7300 Chestnut St., with a summary at 6 p.m. of the online town hall survey and comments, and a description of the concept plan revisions and options based on public input.

The public can comment between 6:45 and 7:45 p.m. with a limit of two minutes per person. Citizens also can speak to the consultant team at discussion boards from 7:15 to 8 p.m.
