Wauwatosa Schools Recognized For Music Education

WAUWATOSA, WI — The Wauwatosa School District's music education program was nationally recognized by the National Association of Music Merchants Foundation, or NAMM Foundation. The district was recognized among the Best Communities for Music Education, according to a release from the district.

The Best Communities for Music Education recognition has been around for 21 years, recognizing efforts by teachers, administrators, parents, students and other who have made music education a part of overall education and give high access to music education.

Qualifying districts must provide the NAMM Foundation with information about "funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, and support for the music programs."

"In Wauwatosa, we know our community deeply values the arts and our music program, and our program wouldn't be at the level of excellence it is without our incredibly talented teaching staff who are committed to consistently growing in their craft for the benefit of our students," Superintendent Phil Ertl said in the release. "This award affirms their work, as well as the District's commitment to educating the whole child of every child. We're thrilled to be recognized for these efforts."

The release says a 2015 study supported by the NAMM Foundation called Striking a Chord outlines desire by teachers and parents for music education for all children as a part of a regular curriculum.
