Wauwatosa Unemployment Rate Holds Steady, Among State's Best

The city has a rate almost 2 percentage points below that of the state, and one of the best for municipalities measured by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Wauwatosa’s estimated unemployment rate in February was fourth of 32 Wisconsin municipalities with at least 25,000 people, according to statistics released Wednesday by the Department of Workforce Development.

The rate of 6.3 percent is identical to January, and up year-over-year from 5.9 percent in February 2012. Numbers are not seasonally adjusted.

According to a release from the state, this data is compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics based on Unemployment Insurance claims and a monthly survey of 1,450 Wisconsin households (0.06 percent), called the Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS).
