West's 'A Chorus Line' Garners a 'Tommy'

Production team recognized for an outstanding show, and four student performers win accolades. Cast will perform for awards ceremony in Madison.

The Wauwatosa West High School Trojan Players have won the Tommy Award for Outstanding Musical for their April 2013 production of “A Chorus Line.”

Four performers also won individual awards.

The Tommy Awards program, sponsored by the Overture Center in Madison, is an education initiative that honors and celebrates excellence in musical theatre among area high school students.

Fifty-four productions were reviewed by a team of theatre professionals and performing arts educators – a total of nine received the Outstanding Musical award. More than 150 awards will be presented to the participating schools.

The Outstanding Musical award recognizes all areas of the production as outstanding. Members of the production are: Adam Steffan, director/choreographer; Jason Meissner, vocal director; David Topolovec, orchestra director and the orchestra; Rebecca Beaudoin, scenic designer; “A Chorus Line” cast, costume designer; Kurt Schnabel, lighting designer; Marc McDuffie, sound designer; and Marshall Thornton, stage manager.

In addition to the Outstanding Musical award, four cast members received Outstanding Supporting Performer awards.

They are Rayven Burdette, Phoebe Albert, Jordan Llanas and Mary Kayser.

The Tommy Awards ceremony will be held Sunday, June 16, 2013, at the Overture Center for the Arts in Overture Hall in Madison.

The Wauwatosa West High School Trojan Players will be one of the participating schools to perform at the ceremony.
