13 Vehicle Break-Ins Reported In 6 Days In Whitefish Bay

People in Whitefish Bay are finding their unlocked vehicles rummaged through with items stolen over the past week, police say.

WHITEFISH BAY, WI — Police in Whitefish Bay are reporting a rash of vehicle break-ins as of late, tallying 13 cases in a six-day period in late July. In each of the cases, people are discovering that their vehicles which were left unlocked had been rummaged through.

In some reports, loose change was stolen, yet in others, wallets, personal technology and ID cards were taken.

July 26: 9:05 p.m.

Whitefish Bay police were sent to the 1500 block of E. Cumberland Blvd. after a vehicle owner said someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole various tools and two pairs of sunglasses.

July 27: 5:06 p.m.

Police went to a home on the 4800 block of N. Anita Ave. after a vehicle owner said his Apple Airpods were taken from his unlocked vehicle. Police said they were able to ping the location of the Airpods to just down the block, though the residents of the building told police they didn't know about the Airpods, according to police call logs.

July 28: 10 a.m.

Officers were sent to a home on the 500 block of E. Hampton Road on a report that loose change was taken from an unlocked vehicle that was parked in the driveway.

July 28: 10:53 a.m.

Police went to a home on the 4700 block of N. Hollywood Ave. after police found a work ID on the grass from a break-in case reported earlier on E. Hampton Road. Police said the ID owner had two of her vehicles broken into on July 27, and that Apple iPods and a charger were stolen in addition to the ID.

July 28: 11:50 a.m.

Authorities said a person down the block on the 4700 block of N. Hollywood Ave. also had his unlocked vehicle entered by someone overnight. Nothing was reported stolen.

July 28: 7:40 p.m.

A person who lives on the 4900 block of N. Elkhart Ave. said they saw two men enter her neighbor's unlocked vehicle that was parked on the street, and wanted to report the incident to authorities.

July 28: 8:40 p.m.

Police also went out to a home on the 5400 block of N. Danbury Road on a report that someone entered an unlocked vehicle that was parked on the corner of N. Danbury Road and E. Lake Forest Ave. Nothing was taken, according to police call logs.

July 29: 1:18 a.m.

According to police, a person who lives on the 5800 block of N. Shoreland Ave. called police saying a suspicious man wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt and dark pants walked up the homeowner's driveway. Police call logs stated the homeowner confronted the man, who ran to a dark-colored sedan that was driving without its lights on.


July 29: 3:10 p.m

Police said a person who lives on the 4700 block of N. Berkeley Blvd. walked into the police department to report that someone entered her unlocked Honda Accord and stole a coin purse.

July 29: 6:55 p.m.

Police said a person who lives just down the block on the 4600 block of N. Hollywood Ave. called police saying a man who looked as though he was in his late teens entered her unlocked Kia and stole a number of credit cards, wallet and some loose change. Police said the wallet was found on the ground near the home, but her driver's license was gone.

July 30: 5:38 p.m.

Whitefish Bay police say someone stole her garage door opener, house key and change from her unlocked Toyota which was parked in the driveway in front of her home on the 1900 block of E. Cumberland Blvd.

July 31: 5:48 p.m.

According to police, nothing was taken from a red Ford or blue Subaru that were both unlocked and parked in the driveway of a home on the 4900 block of N. Hollywood Ave.

July 31: 11:35 p.m.

Authorities said they were flagged down by a person on the 5500 block of N. Bay Ridge who told police his vehicle was entered, and items were stolen. Whitefish Bay police say they pulled over a bicycle rider who didn't have his lights on. According to police, the bicycle rider admitted to stealing cash from the car among other items. He was driven to the Whitefish Bay police department, cited and released to his grandmother.
