Over the past two months, the Whitefish Bay Village Board has been reviewing the existing Ice Rink Agreement between the Village and the Milwaukee Winter Club. During the review process, the Village Board has solicited direct feedback from the 35 adjacent Cahill Park neighbors and received hundreds of emails/phone calls from residents. At last evening’s meeting, the Village Board voted unanimously to notify the Milwaukee Winter Club that the Village will not be exercising the automatic renewal clause in the current Ice Rink agreement. Per the agreement, renewal would have occurred automatically on September 1st unless either party provided notice at least three months in advance (June 1st).

The notice does not preclude the Milwaukee Winter Club from submitting a new proposal for Village Board review. If there is support for such a proposal, a subsequent, negotiated agreement would be required between the Village and the Milwaukee Winter Club.

By giving notice, the Village will have additional time to collect feedback, assess and correct court conditions, and review the winter 2020-2021 agreement for areas of improvement/concern if a subsequent proposal is submitted. Full motion from the Village Board: Trustee Serebin moved, seconded by Trustee Saunders to provide notice to the Milwaukee Winter Club that the Village will not be exercising the auto renewal clause in the ice rink MOU. The notice does not preclude a new ice rink proposal and MOU. Ongoing conversation is anticipated and welcomed. Motion Carried, 7-0.
