Do-Gooders Creating Dangerous Situation

Drivers stopping and encouraging users of bike path crossing on Hampton just west of the Dairy Queen to proceed are putting them at risk.

The bike path crossing on Hampton just west of DQ is NOT a "yield to pedestrian" crossing. Bikers are to stop and let traffic proceed and they do for the most part. What's not only not helpful (despite the intentions) but also potentially dangerous is the situation where a driver decides to stop and encourage bikers to proceed into the crossing.

Those drivers have no control over what other motorists on that very busy street are doing. The intention is admirable, the action itself is not.

I witnessed this for the third time in a month last evening. When I got home I contacted the WFB Chief of Police who also expressed his frustration in that regard and suggested that, should an accident occur, the driver who created the potential for the situation could be cited.
