WHITEFISH BAY, WI -- The owner of a black lab says his dog will recover after it was hit by a driver by accident.
According to Whitefish Bay police call logs, officers responded to a home on the 900 block of E. Hampton Road just before 4 p.m. on June 11 on a report that a dog had been hit by a car.
Police said the driver of a vehicle was heading west on E. Hampton Road before 4 p.m. when he accidentally hit a dog with his car.

The driver said that a black lab ran onto the road and that he could not stop in time to avoid striking the dog. The driver said the dog's owner ran out to the street moments after the dog was hit. The dog's owner reportedly picked up their dog and took him to the vet.
Police said officers later made contact with the dog's owner, who later verified the driver's story and that they took the dog to the vet for treatment. Police said the owner confirmed with police that the dog suffered from minor injuries but would eventually recover.
