WHITEFISH BAY, WI — Residents living along the lake in Whitefish Bay will get a boost later this summer — but not without some inconveniences along the way — as construction work begins on the Village's Lake Drive Pedestrian Safety Improvement Project.

The project, which will make several upgrades along Lake Drive in the Village, includes sidewalk and handicap ramp replacement, curb and gutter work, guardrail installation and replacement, roadway median changes, rapid flashing beacon pedestrian crossing installations, signage updates, pavement striping, and a high-friction pavement surface treatment.

Village officials said the project is being funded with 90 percent federal and state safety money, with 10 percent of the funding provided by the Village of Whitefish Bay. Waukesha-based LaLonde Contractors is the general contractor for this project, and there will be no assessment to any adjacent property owners for the work, city officials said.

Project leaders say most of the project will be done by early July. The final piece of the puzzle is the installation of high-friction pavement. That work should be done by late July or early August, they said.
