Growing Up at the Corner of Silver Spring and Marlborough Drive

Growing up, Sunday afternoon dinners were the best.
My parents, Julia and Erv Heyer, their six kids, and a menagerie of land turtles, gerbils, waltzing mice, and
frogs lived in a duplex above the family IGA grocery store, at the corner of Silver Spring and Marlborough Drive in Whitefish Bay, the current location of Winkie's Variety Store. Our playground was the roof top of the garages and storage units for my folks’ store and the adjacent Whitefish Bay Pharmacy.
