Whitefish Bay Student Completes Eagle Scout Service Project

A total of 27 people helped with the project and contributed more 140 hours of work.

WHITEFISH BAY, WI — A Whitefish Bay High School senior recently completed his Eagle Scout public service project, bringing some light to Kletzsch Park.

Joey Bartel, a resident of Whitefish Bay and a senior at Whitefish Bay High School, recently finished his Eagle service project, building ten Leopold-style benches for Kletzsch Park.

The benches were placed and secured on a set of trails that runs from Kletzsch Park Area eight to Kletzsch Park Area four.

Bartel received a helping hand from many people in the Whitefish Bay community, as a total of 27 people helped with the project and contributed more 140 hours of work.

In order to complete this project, he coordinated with an operations manager of the Milwaukee County Parks to gain approval for the project and for the locations in which the benches were placed.

Besides leading the building of the benches and their placement on the trail, Bartel had to do extensive “behind the scenes” work, such as filling out an extensive Project Proposal and Project Plan, obtaining a permit for placing the benches on the trails, and calling Diggers hotline.

Bartel said that he hopes that the benches will make the trail and Kletzsch park as a whole more enjoyable for the community.
