Anchorage School Calendar 2017-18: First Day Of School, Vacations, Conferences

The first day of school in Anchorage is August 21 for grades 1-12 and August 28 for kindergarten. Feel free to mark it on your calendar as one of the most dreaded days of the year for students and teachers — and feel free not to feel guilty about marking it as one of your favorites. The Anchorage School District has released its 2017-2018 calendar for public schools.

The calendar includes important dates such as winter and spring vacations, religious holidays, federal holidays, early dismissals and parent-teacher conferences.

Here is the full list of dates to know for this school year:

• 8/16: Teachers’ First Day
• 8/17 - 8/18: Professional Development
• 8/21: First Day of School
• 8/28: First Day of Kindergarten

September

• 9/4: No School (Labor Day)

October

• 10/20: No School for Students (Professional Development), End of First Quarter
• 10/25 - 10/26: Parent Conference Days
• 10/27: No School for Students (Professional Development)

November

• 11/10: No School for Students (Professional Development)
• 11/23 - 11/24: No School (Thanksgiving)

December

• 12/21: Classes End
• 12/22: No School for Students (Grade Reporting Day), End of Second Quarter
• 12/25 - 12/29: No School (Winter Break)

January

• 1/1 - 1/5: No School (Winter Break)
• 1/8: Classes Resume
• 1/15: No School (Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday)

February

• 2/19: No School (Presidents Day Holiday)
• 2/21 - 2/22: Parent Conference Days
• 2/23: No School for Students (Professional Development)

March

• 3/9: No School for Students (Professional Development), End of Third Quarter
• 3/12 - 3/16: No School (Spring Break)

May

• 5/23: Last Day of Classes
• 5/24: Last Day for Teachers
