Here are the top three stories today in Scottsdale:

  1. A memory care center in neighboring Gilbert was fined $500 after one of their patients walked out of the facility without staff knowledge. The patient, an 88-year-old woman who had been diagnosed with dementia, later died. Silver Creek Inn received multiple citations, including not following proper procedures for patients who may wander, not knowing where patients are, and doors not being locked or alarms set. (12news.com KPNX)
  2. The Banner Health Foundation received a $3 million grant to expand its melanoma program. The money will be used to add and expand clinical sites around the Valley, hire more staff, bolster community outreach, and help patients with some costs. The center has treated more than 1,900 patients since it first opened in 2017. (ABC15 Arizona in Phoenix)
  3. Two seventeen-year-olds were indicted for eight felonies from a Phoenix car crash during an alleged street racing incident in July. The crash near 43rd Avenue and Thunderbird Road killed four people, including a Lyft driver and his two passengers. A teenager in the car driven by one defendant also died from injuries caused by the crash. (12news.com KPNX)
