SCOTTSDALE, AZ -- Scottsdale Airport will soon have the funding it needs to embark on a multi-million runway rehabilitation project.

The airport received $11 million in funding from the Federal Aviation Administration Friday for the project, which starts July 6.

The money is earmarked for runway renovation work, and will not be spent to increase the runway's length or weight capacity, the airport said.

“This federal grant supports Scottsdale Airport and the vitally important role it plays in this region,” says Gary P. Mascaro, aviation director in a statement. “It’s essential for the airport to provide a well maintained, safe and secure infrastructure to accommodate our aircraft operators. We want to retain our competitive advantages as an essential hub for general aviation and corporate activity.”

The rehabilitation project will take around 45 days to complete, with the facility being closed to all fixed-wing operations during the project.
