SCOTTSDALE, AZ — The American Girl Store in Scottsdale is the latest casualty of the coronavirus pandemic.

The store announced Thursday it would be permanently closing its only Arizona location at the Scottsdale Quarter, in part, to focus on the company’s e-commerce efforts.

“It has been our privilege to serve this community for the past five years, and we thank our customers for their loyalty and look forward to continuing our valued relationship with them,” General Manager Jamie Cygielman said in a statement. “While decisions that impact our associates, our customers, and the community are always difficult, the closure is a necessary step to optimize our store portfolio and accelerate our expanding e-commerce business.”

The store opened in 2015 at the North Scottsdale shopping center and offered all historical and contemporary dolls, including their clothes, accessories and books. It gave children the chance to interact with their favorite dolls in person.

The Scottsdale closure will impact 26 full and part-time employees. The company said it will offer assistance to impacted staff during this transition.
