AZ Monsoon: Increase In Rain Chances Overnight, Next Week

The Tucson area will see a strong bout of monsoon moisture Tuesday and Wednesday, and again next week, the National Weather Service said.

TUCSON, AZ — The summer monsoon appears to be creeping ever closer to the Tucson area.

That's the takeaway from the National Weather Service, which gives the Tucson area a 26 percent chance of rain Tuesday night into Wednesday.

A second, more established weather system is expected to slide into Southern Arizona next week, with elevated rain chances running through at least next Friday, the service said.

The highest chance for rain next week in Tucson as of now is Monday, when the Old Pueblo has a 41 percent chance of rain, with higher odds in the White Mountains and on top of Mount Lemmon.

In the interim, warmer than average high temperatures will return to Tucson, though not as severe as the heat wave that's plagued the U.S. Southwest over the past few weeks.

The service expects high temperatures in Tucson to reach 106 on Friday and peaking at 108 Saturday and Sunday.

There's currently a 30 percent chance of rain in Tucson Tuesday night and Wednesday, trailing off to 20 percent by Wednesday night, the service said.
