On Sunday, April 7, Banner – University Medicine unveiled its new hospital in Tucson. The facility, which officially opens on April 22, will strive to improve the lives of patients, staff, faculty and the entire Pima County community by offering reliable care, innovative technology and new research capabilities.

Banner – University Medicine and the University of Arizona are working together to ensure the new hospital is equipped with everything needed to provide exceptional levels of care, strengthening their mission to bring responsive, approachable and cutting edge health care to Tucson.

Set against the breathtaking backdrop of the Catalina Mountains, the modern facility features added space and upgraded amenities such as:

  • $50 million in state-of-the-art patient care equipment
  • All-inclusive 12-bed unit for labor, delivery and recovery
  • A 24-bed post/antepartum unit and a larger family area with new sleeping sofas and rockers
  • Larger average room sizes (150-200-square-feet larger)
  • Larger restrooms and showers
  • In-room connections for portable relaxation tubs
  • The latest in-room labor and delivery lighting technology
  • Closer proximity to the rest of the hospital, NICU, dining and outdoor spaces
  • Upgraded Wi-Fi and cellular coverage through the facility

There will be plenty of upgrades for Banner – University Medicine staff, faculty and students as well. A new nine-room on-call suite will have restrooms, shower rooms and a small lounge. More conference rooms, classroom space, and physician team rooms with multiple computer workstations will also be added.

The community preview coincided with Cyclovia Tucson, whose route conveniently started at the new facility. Banner – University Medicine was the presenting sponsor for the popular "open streets" community-focused program, furthering their commitment to strengthening care and promoting wellness in the community.
