As the holiday season quickly approaches, Banner–University Medicine is offering a variety of family-focused classes, groups and seminars.

With the holiday season just around the corner, Thanksgiving will be here before you know it. This time of year tends to be busy, and making sure you and your family are leading healthy lives can be challenging.
Fortunately, Banner–University Medicine is on a mission to encourage health and wellness for folks in the Tucson area. It offers a wide variety of family-focused classes, groups and events to help you and your loved ones stay informed, prepared and healthy.

Beyond The Blue Support Group
Date: Monday, Nov. 4 (recurring every Monday except during holiday weeks)
Time: 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

If you're a new mom who's feeling sad, anxious, overwhelmed or disconnected, this is the support group for you. It provides a safe, nonjudgmental environment where you can talk honestly with other women who are having similar feelings and thoughts. Babies up to 12 months old are welcome to join. Attendance is free, and no registration is required.

Breastfeeding Support Group
Date: Tuesday, Nov. 5 (recurring every Tuesday)
Time: 10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m.

This free, weekly support group is open to all mothers who are breastfeeding and/or pumping. It's led by board-certified lactation consultants who can answer all your questions about latch issues, milk supply, how to know if your baby is getting enough, breast care, pumping while going back to work and more. Registration is not required, and babies up to 12 months old are welcome to attend.
Dementia Caregiver Support Group
Date: Wednesday, Nov. 6
Time: 1:30 p.m. - 3 p.m.
Location: Hacienda at the River

Caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia presents many unique challenges for the caregiver. This free, open group allows caregivers to share concerns and learn tips and coping strategies. It's held on the first Wednesday of every month, excluding major holidays, and registration is not required.

OB Childbirth Prep Class & Tour
Date: Thursday, Nov. 7 and Thursday, Nov. 14
Time: 4:30 p.m. - 8 p.m.

This class is recommended for every expectant mother and her support person during the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy. Topics covered will include preparing for labor and delivery, the stages of labor, breathing and relaxation exercises, postpartum changes, as well as medical options and practices. A tour of the labor/delivery and postpartum units is included. Please note this class meets for two consecutive weeks. The cost is $70 and registration is required.

Moving With Lymphedema
Date: Tuesday, Nov. 12 (recurring on the second Tuesday of the month, except holidays)
Time: 11 a.m. - Noon

This class teaches participants easy, gentle movements to encourage lymph drainage. All exercises can be done standing or sitting. The fee for this class is $8, and while walk-ins will be accepted to capacity, registration is preferred.

Surgical Weight Loss Information Session
Date: Monday, Nov. 18

If you have committed to a healthy diet and exercise routine but you're unable to meet your weight-loss goals, you might be interested in learning more about surgical weight loss. During this information session, you'll learn about the surgical weight loss options available, different program requirements and how to navigate the insurance approval process. Attending a session like this one is required before you can schedule a consultation at Banner–University Medical Center Tucson Center for Bariatric Surgery. There is no charge to attend, and while walk-ins will be accepted to capacity, registration is preferred.

OB Infant/Child CPR Class
Date: Thursday, Nov. 21
Time: 5 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

This class is recommended for parents, grandparents and caregivers ages 17 and up. Participants will learn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques for both infants and children, and what to do if a child is choking. Registration is required, and the cost is $20.
