Fortunately, Banner–University Medicine is on a mission to encourage health and wellness in the Tucson area. It offers a wide variety of family-focused events and classes to help folks in the Pima County community stay prepared, informed and healthy.

Dementia Caregiver Support Group

Date: Wednesday, Oct. 2
Time: 1:30 - 3 p.m.

Caring for someone with Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia presents many unique challenges for the caregiver. Knowing that you are not alone can help you find and maintain hope as you support your loved one. Join this open group to share concerns, learn tips and coping strategies toward successful caregiving. No registration is required. This is a free drop-in group that will be held the first Wednesday of every month, excluding major holidays.

Breastfeeding Support Group

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 8 (recurring every Tuesday)
Time: 10 - 11:30 a.m.

Breastfeeding can be wonderful, frustrating and everything in between. This free weekly support group is open to all mothers who are breastfeeding and/or pumping, and children up to 12 months old are welcome as well. Each group is led by board-certified lactation consultants who can answer all your questions about latch-issues, milk supply, how to know if your baby is getting enough, breast-care, pumping while back to work and more. Registration is not required.

Psych Talks With Saira Kalia, M.D.

Banner and the University Of Arizona Department Of Psychiatry are excited to present a new series of psychiatry talks to transform your awareness of mental health issues. In this talk, Dr. Saira Kalia, an assistant professor of psychiatry at the University of Arizona College of Medicine, will be discussing "Maternal Mental Health and its Impact on Society." The event is free, and registration is not required.

Surgical Weight Loss Information Session

Date: Monday, Oct. 14

If you've committed to a healthy diet and exercise routine but you're unable to meet your weight-loss goals, you might be interested in learning more about surgical weight loss. Before you can schedule a consultation at the Banner–University Medical Center Tucson Center for Bariatric Surgery, you'll need to attend a mandatory information session like this one. You'll learn about the program requirements and how to navigate the insurance approval process. There is no charge to attend, and while walk-ins will be accepted to capacity, registration is preferred.

Beyond the Blue Support Group

Date: Monday, Oct. 21 (recurring every Monday except during holiday weeks)

Motherhood is exciting, but it can also be overwhelming and bring up feelings of depression and anxiety. This support group is for pregnant women and new moms who may be feeling sad, overwhelmed or disconnected. It provides a safe, non-judgmental environment where women can talk honestly with others having similar feelings or thoughts. The group is free, and no registration is necessary. Babies up 12 months old are welcome to join.

OB Infant/Child CPR Class

Date: Tuesday, Oct. 22
Time: 5 - 7:30 p.m.
Location: Banner University Medical Center – Tucson

In this class, taught by a registered nurse, participants will learn Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques for both infants and children, and what to do if a child is choking. The cost to attend is $20, and participants must be at least 17 years of age to register. Registration is required, and walk-ins will not be accepted.
